Giuliano Babini

born in Romagna on 6 January 1951, gained a diploma from the Istituto d'Arte per il Mosaico in Ravenna, subsequently graduating (painting course) from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna.
(Teachers: A. Baccilieri, P. Mandelli, A. Parronchi etc., with whom he developed a thesis entitled “Corrente”, in cooperation with Raffaele De Grada; integrating his studies with special teacher courses: V. Mascalchi, F. Caroli and G. Cortenova; thesis entitled “Testi teatrali di F. Tozzi” in cooperation with Piero Santi).

He made his debut in 1971 at the "Rassegna della Giovane Pittura Romagnola" in Faenza (RA), continuing to display his works in solo and collective exhibitions in Ferrara, Forlì, Bari, Genoa, Palermo, Bologna, Trevi, Paray le Monial, Stockholm, Tokyo, Milano, New York.

In 1981, along with Enzo Tinarelli, he established "Spazio G" in Ravenna, the cultural association which was later to become a point of reference for young artists. (D. Boudinet - U. Bruns – G. He devoted his efforts to theatrical sets and performances.
He enjoyed a variety of experiences in the fields of photography, painting and mosaic.
Decisive to his pictorial evolution were two exhibitions visited around the middle of the 1980s, entitled "La Transavanguardia Internazionale" held in San Marino and "Dal Ritorno all'Ordine al Richiamo della Pittura" at the Mathildenhohe Darmstadt in Germany.

Teacher at the Istituto d'Arte and Accademia di Belle Arti of Ravenna (promoting meetings and workshops with Alchimia (Studio) R. Barilli – R. Licata – B. Minardi – A. Rocchi – R. Signorini).

Artistic Director of "Galleria Rasponi Arte Contemporanea" from 1991 to 1996 (despite starting from an interest in the young artists of the area: F. Bocchini – L. Caccioni – E. Lombardi – M. Neri – F. Pozzi etc., he dedicated particular attention [often cooperating with the Cannaviello Gallery in Milan] to the European painting of H. Albert – P. Chevalier – U. Dziersk – K.H. Hodicke – C. K. Mehrkens – H. Nitsch – T. Schindler – B. Zimmer etc., availing himself of the critical advice of M. Bonuomo – M. Calvesi – F. Caroli - V. Conti – M. L. Frisa – S. Ghinassi – L. Meneghelli – C. Spadoni etc.).

He was simultaneously engaged as artistic director of "Studio Akomena" from 1988 to 2003 (working with authors such as: R. Arad - M. Bonetti - G. Demo - U. La Pietra - M. Lucchi - U. Marano - G. Pesce - E. Sottsass, etc.).

Artistic director, in 1996, for the creation of the mosaic for the tomb of Rudolf Nureyev (at the Russian orthodox cemetery in Sainte Geneviève des Bois, Paris) – designed by Ezio Frigerio and commissioned by the Rudolf Nureyev Foundation, with Stefano Pace as technical director, tomb structure by Atelier de Décors de l'Opera Paris-Bastille and mosaic creation by Studio Akomena.

Towards 2000, he joined forces with Francesca Fabbri and they pooled their design talents into creations presented under the name of “Akomena Progetti”.

Curator, in 2008, of the "Giorgio Morigi Scultore" exhibition mounted in the cloisters of the Casa Oriani library in Ravenna on the centenary of the sculptor’s birth, to an idea by S. Giorgetti with presentation by Alfonso Panzetta.

The participation in two important exhibitions for research, encounter, and the evolution between sculpture/mosaic is fundamental. 2014 “Scultura e Mosaico” Between the twentieth and twenty-first centuries the metamorphosis of the tile into Italian sculpture, Montevarchi, Arezzo. 2017 "Montezuma, Fontana, Mirko. Mosaic sculpture from its origins to today", MAR - Art Museum of the city of Ravenna.
